Reid clocks 11.17 to win 100m in Japan
Alana Reid’s fantastic season continued recently at the FUSE Sprint Championships in Japan’s Tottori Yanate Sports Park Athletics Stadium.
Reid won the Women’s A 100 metres race in a meet record 11.17 seconds. The young Jamaican sprinter Reid won by a wide margin and was more than two-tenths of a second ahead of second-place finisher Arisu Kimijima of Japan.
The former Hydel High sprinter was happy with her win. “I have been training hard and I know my coach is proud of me for this result,” she said.
Reid was competing on a a new track surface that was relaid earlier this year with Monda’s high-performance repulsive force material and she stated that she loved the surface.
“The track surface was easy to run on and I am very happy to put in a great performance leading up to the Jamaica National Championships,” she said.
Two other Jamaican high school athletes competed at the meet. Aaliyah Baker of Hydel finished second in the Women’s B 100m in 11.57 seconds while Calabar High’s Shaquan Gordon clocked 10.79 seconds in the preliminary round of the men’s 100 metres.
