Caribbean region experiences two tremors within short period

There were no immediate reports of damage of injuries linked to the tremors.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC - Two earthquakes rattled several Caribbean islands over the past 24 hours, the Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the St Augustine campus of the University of the West Indies reported Monday.

There were no immediate reports of damage of injuries linked to the tremors.

It said that the latest quake, with a magnitude of 4.2 occurred 9.45 a.m. (local time) on Monday at a depth of 10 kilometres (km). 

It was felt 111 km south north east of Roseau, the Dominican capital, 131 km south east of Point-à-Pitre in the French island of Guadeloupe and 142 km north east of Fort-de-France, Martinique.

The second tremor with a magnitude of 4.5 occurred on Sunday evening at 9.22 p.m. at a depth of  62 km.

The quake was felt 105 km north west of Port of Spain in Trinidad, 109 km, south west of St George's in Grenada and 121 km north east of Carúpano, Venezuela.
