St Andrew, Immaculate, Holy Childhood, St Jago claim Chess Champs titles

THERE WERE four big winners at the 22nd staging of the Scholastic Team Chess Championships at the University of Technology recently.

St Andrew Preparatory walked away with the Open Team title, Immaculate Conception were the top female Primary/Prep team, Holy Childhood copped the title among Under-8s, and St Jago High continued to maintain their tradition of producing excellent chess players with a win in the Junior High section of the championships.

More than 100 teams turned out at the University of Technology for the tournament with the competitiveness of the tournament escalating with the increase in participants.

St Andrew’s victory came by way of a tie-breaker against Hillel Academy, with Emmanuel Christian Academy copping third.

That wasn’t the only competition at the Championships to go down to a tie-breaker, with St Jago also coming out victorious in the same vein, winning against a very competitive Campion College ‘A’.

Campion College ‘B’ were third in the Junior High competition, with their girls landing the top female team award.

Among the under-8s, Holy Childhood got the better of St Andrew Prep while Morris Knibb Prep were third.

Immaculate Conception Prep were not to be outdone as the girls proved the top female team in the nation, finishing ahead of Creative Kids Learning Academy and St Andrew Prep.
