US immigration agents nab fugitive wanted for rape of minor in Jamaica

STAMFORD, CMC – The United States Immigration and Customs and Enforcement (ICE) agency on Friday said agents from its Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Boston, Massachusetts, arrested a Jamaican fugitive wanted in Jamaica for rape and sexual intercourse with a person under 16 years of age. 

ICE said deportation officers with ERO Boston's Hartford, Connecticut, field office apprehended the 59-year-old Jamaican national on May 29 near his residence in Stamford, Connecticut. 

“This Jamaican non-citizen fled to the United States to avoid some very disturbing charges,” said ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd M.Lyons. “He posed a significant threat to the residents of Connecticut, and now he will return to Jamaica to face justice there. 

“ERO Boston will continue our work of prioritising public safety while arresting and removing egregious non-citizen offenders from our New England communities,” he added. 

ICE said US Customs and Border Protection (CBO) agency admitted the Jamaican national into the United States on June 14, 2020 at the John F Kennedy International Airport in New York. 

He entered as a non-immigrant visitor authorised to remain in the US for six months, ICE said. 

On July 1, 2020, ICE said Jamaican authorities issued a warrant for his arrest for raping a child in that country.

ICE said the US State Department revoked the Jamaican citizen's non-immigrant visa on July 9, 2020.

“Deportation officers with ERO Hartford apprehended the Jamaican fugitive May 29 near his residence in Stamford, issued him a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge, and placed him into removal proceedings,” ICE said. 

“He will remain in ERO custody pending the outcome of his removal proceedings,” it added.
