Promoter Mikey Sparkle honoured by chamber of commerce in Georgia
Georgia-based events promoter and radio personality Mikey Sparkle recently received a Georgia Resolution Award from the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce of Georgia.
The award was presented to him by the entity’s president, Jackie Pommells Watson, during the an event which took place at the state capital in June.
The Jamaican-born businessman who has been living in Georgia since 1999 owns and operates several businesses in Atlanta including an auto care facility, a radio station and a restaurant.
“I feel honoured to be recognised by the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce for my work as a businessperson in Georgia. I’m profoundly grateful for this award. I am also grateful to the Most High for giving me the drive and inspiration to work hard and make a positive impact on my community,” he said.
Over the past 10 years, Mikey Sparkle has built a sparkling reputation as an events promoter by promoting several popular annual events in Georgia including the Mikey Sparkle Family Fun Day, the Mikey Sparkle Christmas Party, and the Merritone Family Funday.
He has also staged several popular Jamaican roots plays in Georgia including Divorce Court, Guilty With Explanation, Crazy But True, and Frenemy.
“Events promotion is a high-risk business sometimes you do everything right from start to finish to produce a good event, but end up not making a profit. Despite that I’ve continued promoting events because I am dedicated to promoting Jamaican culture in the US and I love to see people having fun and enjoying themselves,” he said.
Sparkle recently hosted the 13th staging of his annual Caribbean Family Fun Day. The day event, which is always free of cost for children, took place at the City of Lithonia Amphitheater on June 16. It featured performances from several locally based artistes including Ras Fraser, Chenco, Jah Max, Maxine Lions, Sir Alexander, Anthony Mattai, DJ Super Pec, Imar Shepherd, MC Wayne Hall and Propa English.
