Jamaica's Kishane Thompson took silver in the men's 100m at the Paris Olympics, his first global medal.

In one of the closest Olympic sprint finals, Noah Lyles of the USA secured the gold medal after a photo finish that saw him breaking the line in a personal best time of 9.784 seconds, which is five-thousandths of a second faster than Thompson who crossed the line in 9.789 seconds.

American Fred Kerley secured the bronze medal following a personal best time of 9.81 seconds.

Jamaica's Oblique Seville, who was touted as a heavy medal favourite, finished in eighth and last place after clocking 9.91 seconds.
