Jamaica’s Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw played the entire game as her team, Manchester City, drew 2-2 with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium yesterday on the opening weekend of the Women’s Super League season in England.

Shaw, who scored 21 times in 18 games last season and won the Barclays Women’s Super League Golden Boot was not among the scorers yesterday, however. Norwegian Frida Maanum gave Arsenal the lead after eight minutes and Vivianne Miedema of the Netherlands, a former Arsenal player, levelled the scores in the 42nd as they ended the half 1-1.

England international Jessica Park put Manchester City in front 13 minutes after the break before Beth Mead, another England international, ensured that Arsenal shared the points with a goal in the 81st minute.

Shaw’s Manchester City will next be in action on Thursday when they host Paris FC in the second leg of a UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifier. Manchester City slammed Paris FC 5-0 in the first leg last Wednesday.

Shaw was unable to travel to France for that match because of visa issues. According to a BBC report, the club failed to file a visa application. They attempted to get a late visa for the 27-year-old, but their request could not be completed in time.
