Man held with cocaine, ganja in Manchester traffic stop fined

A man who was held with a quantity of cocaine and ganja during a traffic stop in Manchester in July on Monday pleaded guilty and was fined in parish court.

Mahlon Davis, 38, of Ewarton, St Catherine was convicted of breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Davis was sentenced to six months' imprisonment for possession of ganja or a fine of $15,000, six months' imprisonment for trafficking ganja or a fine of $105,816, six months' imprisonment for possession of cocaine or a fine $500,000, and four months suspended sentence for two years or $500,000 for trafficking cocaine.

The sentences will run concurrently if the fines are not paid.

Davis is scheduled to appear in the Manchester Circuit Court on Thursday, January 23, 2025 for an asset forfeiture hearing.

The police reported that on Monday, July 25, lawmen from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division conducted an operation along on the Hatsfield main road in Manchester when they saw Davis driving a Toyota Axio motor car with a woman as a passenger aboard.

He was signalled to stop.

He complied.

A search of the vehicle was conducted which revealed two garbage bags containing ganja, weighing 12 pounds, in the trunk of the car, and one kilogramme of cocaine was seen hidden behind the glove compartment of the motor vehicle.

A further search of the vehicle also revealed another kilogramme of cocaine that was concealed in another part of the vehicle.

Davis and the woman were taken into custody in relation to the matter.

However, during the investigation, the woman was released.

Davis pleaded guilty to possession and trafficking of illegal substances when he appeared before the Manchester Parish Court on Monday, September 23.
