Mayor Collen Gager of Falmouth is appealing to the National Works Agency (NWA) to install two sets of traffic lights at major intersections in the town to improve road safety.

Gager highlighted the need for traffic lights at the overpass in Martha Brae and at Bouge Gate, where motorists exit Foreshore Road in Falmouth, Trelawny, to enter the North Coast Highway, noting that these areas are prone to accidents.

"I am appealing for these lights before more lives are lost in these vicinities," he said today during the monthly meeting of the Trelawny Municipal Corporation.

E.G. Hunter, Manager of the NWA, responded to the request, estimating the cost at $40 million for the installation of the two traffic lights.

"Requests like those will have to face the elasticity of our funds. We will look into the request," Hunter told The Gleaner.

Superintendent Winston Milton expressed support for the mayor's request, stating that traffic officers are stationed at the overpass each morning between 7:00 am and 9:00 am to manage unruly drivers who disregard the safety of other motorists and pedestrians.
