Senior St Catherine, Junior Wolmer’s netballers dominate
DEFENDING SENIOR ISSA Urban Schoolgirl Netball champions, St Catherine High School, had the biggest win in yesterday’s second set of matches in the second round of the ISSA Urban schoolgirl netball competition.
The Phyllis Thompson-coached team from St John’s Road in Spanish Town picked up their second win in a row after a blowout 60-4 win over Convert of Mercy Academy, Alpha, as they showed their readiness to defend their title.
Three other teams picked up their second win in a row to remain unbeaten in the competition, The Queen’s School, Gaynstead, and Camperdown High showing good form.
After their big win over Jose Marti in their first match three days earlier, the Marvette Anderson-coached Queen’s had a convincing 32-9 win over Wolmer’s Girls. Camperdown stopped Campion 34-22, while last year’s beaten finalists, Gaynstead, were easy 46-16 winners over Immaculate Conception.
Jose Marti returned to winning ways after their loss to Queen’s by edging Norman Manley 31-28, while Jonathan Grant defeated Vauxhall 32-27 to complete action among seniors.
Preseason favourites, Wolmer’s Girls, were the biggest winners among juniors yesterday.
Beaten finalists last year, the Tracy-Ann Griffiths-coached girls from Marescaux Road made it two from two with an impressive 50-5 win over Campion.
St Hugh’s picked up their second win in a row as the Nardia Hanson-coached team got by Papine 32-2.
Other junior results saw Jonathan Grant getting by Jose Marti 26-18, Gaynstead stopping Immaculate 25-21, Norman Manley defeating Vauxhall 23-18, and Alpha and St Catherine High playing out a 22-22 draw.
