Tyrese Brown, one of the men who escaped from the Barnett Street Police Station in St James last week, was fatally shot by the police in Trelawny on Thursday during an operation to apprehend him.

The head of the Trelawny police, Superintendent Winston Milton, told The Gleaner that the 23-year-old resident of Stettin in the parish was shot after attacking cops with a machete.

“Acting on intelligence, the police went in search of Brown in the Ulster Spring area. He was seen hiding behind a tree and jumped at the police armed with a machete. The police took evasive action and shot Brown.”

He said that Brown was taken to Falmouth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Brown was in custody on charges of murder, rape, and wounding with intent.

The charges relate to the killing of 15-year-old Jamile Cole, a student at Troy High School.
