Question: Do you think it is appropriate for Robert Rainford, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, to stand as surety for former Cash Plus boss?
No, how can a government officer do that? It's like aiding and abetting.
- Julette Bucknor
Like everyone else, the present Government seems to be just being informed of this, and the man [is] off the island and investigation is now on.
- Stephan Martin
Of course not! Even if Mr Rainford is related to the Cash Plus man, propriety would dictate that he arrange for another family [member] to post the bail! But 'propriety', like common sense, isn't seen much in our country these days.

Some people have no understanding of what permanent secretary means ... . Not to mention, he was appointed PS in 2009. However, I do not see this as a political-party problem, but a conflict-of-interest issue.

As long it is his own money, I don't see a problem. People can try to justify their superficial stance by whatever means they see fit. If he has not done anything illegal, I don't see why any judgement should be passed. More often than not, cases tried in the court of public opinion is just an exercise in stupidity.

I don't know how much money permanent secretaries make, but I have to ask, where did he get that $15 million from?

Are you kidding me? A member of the Government standing surety for a criminal? You never see smoke without fire. That's why the DDP throw out the case last week. Them too corrupt!
- Cheryl Neil
That criminal wants to go to jail, serve time, then what? What did he do with the people's money? He surely has cronies in high places.
