Thomas Issa, Jonathan Law and William Myers recently demonstrated Jamaica's potential in go-karting, turning in strong performances at meets in France and on the Florida, USA, circuit.

Today, all three will showcase in Jamaica what they have learnt from their international exposure, as they compete on home soil. They will face off in what is anticipated to be an intense battle in the Rotax Junior Class of the Jamaica Karting Association (JKA) 2013 championship at the Palisadoes International Raceway, Kingston.

Thomas, who is following in the path of his father, Christopher Issa, a former stalwart in regional motorsport, is hoping to give his rivals a lesson in karting. The Campion College schoolboy returned a week ago from Salbris, France, where he participated in the Rotax Max Euro Challenge, rubbing shoulders with the best crop of drivers from North America and Europe.

"It was a good learning experience for him, and that should have sharpened him for today's meet," said veteran racer Peter Rae, Issa's driver coach.

GREAT IMPROVEMENT

Law, in one of the recent meets held at the Homestead track, Florida, came on with a late burst, having started at the back, to finish second in the event. The Jamaica College second-former has not only stepped up on the track, but also in the classroom. "He has improved, but come Sunday (today), any card can play because everybody is on the same level," noted Sammy Law, Jonathan's father.

William Myers has always been a top-class competitor, and today he will have to contend with the aggression of Issa and Law.

"The contest in every class is very tight, so I am expecting an exciting race day," president of the JKA, Neil Williams, told Automotives on Friday.
