AAJ targets increased traffic this year

The Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ) is pushing to increase air traffic into the island this year following a Christmas season that has been described as pretty decent in comparison to others.

"This Christmas season has not been bad at all. Numbers have certainly improved partially due to the fact that we introduced a Delta Flight coming out of Atlanta into Norman Manley International Airport directly. This is also a daily flight. This is very good news for us and it will continue throughout the year," Alfred McDonald, senior director of commercial development and planning at the AAJ said.

He also stated that there were several other measures to gain more traffic throughout the year.

"We have Turks and Caicos which has rebranded an airline called Inter Caribbean Airways, that is going to start flights into Santo Domingo and Puerto Rico from Kingston. That is exciting news and we are looking forward to boosting traffic in and out of Norman Manley," he said.

"We are also talking with some other airlines and we are excited about getting connectivity between the two international airports to a domestic leg from Kingston to Montego Bay. We are anticipating getting started this month and that should help a number of commuters that should have to travel to either of the destinations," he added.
