The Prime Minister of Belize, Dean Barrow, has announced a series of measures to deal with spiralling food prices.

They include providing agricultural producers with increased access to credit, and to provide tax and duty relief to farmers.

Mr. Barrow said while the country is self sufficient in the production of rice, corn and beans, his administration is developing strategies to help citizens deal with rising food prices.

He also announced plans to pass a new Consumer Protection Act, to ensure that farmers pass on any savings to the consumers.
