Burma gets aid

International donors meeting in the former Burmese capital, Rangoon, have pledged nearly US$50 million in aid to victims of Cyclone Nargis, which struck Burma more than three weeks ago.

The sum is a fraction of the $11 billion that Burma\'s military government is seeking to fund relief work.

Some donors said the chances of raising the money depends on whether foreign aid-workers will be allowed into disaster zones.

Burma\'s Prime Minister, Thein Sein, said more help would be welcomed but only if it does not have political overtones.

At least 78,000 people have died as a result of the cyclone, while more than 50,000 people are still missing.
