Former Cuban President condemns EU decision

Former Cuban President Fidel Castro has condemned a decision by the European Union (EU) to lift diplomatic sanctions against Cuba but impose tough human rights conditions.

The ailing 81 year old called the EU decision hypocritical in light of Europe’s new rules on illegal immigration.

The former Cuban leader said the EU has no right to lecture Cuba on human rights and has declared that the sanctions will have no economic consequence for Cuba.

The EU’s new immigration measures seek to standardise the process by which illegal immigrants of member nations are held and deported, allowing for migrants to be held as long as 18 months before being expelled.

The Raul Castro-led government is still to comment on the lifting of the sanctions.
