European Union (EU) member states are to meet next week in a bid to impose tougher sanctions against Zimbabwe.

The bloc\'s existing sanctions include an arms embargo, visa bans and the freezing of assets targeting more than 100 individuals, including President Mugabe.

According to EU diplomats in Brussels, there is now an agreement to widen the sanctions against the government and its supporters, including several businesses.

The measures are to be formally agreed at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels on Tuesday.
