A night under the stars with Norbert Braakhuis

It was an intimate welcoming ceremony for Dutch Ambassador Norbert Braakhuis under the stars last Monday.

The ambassador, in the country for the celebration of Diplomatic Week, was hosted by Robert Cartade, honorary consul for The Netherlands.

Pauline Edie's Long Mountain home overlooking the Corporate Area was the perfect location for the reception. The small number of invited guests were all greeted with a hug and kiss from the goodly ambassador.

Ambassador Braakhuis' visit to Jamaica was his fourth since he was appointed to the region two and a half years ago. Braakhuis, who resides in Cuba, also has ambassadorial responsibility for CuraÁao, Aruba, Saint Martin, Bonaire, Saba and St Eustacius.

The formalities were short and spicy, with Cartade giving a welcome and Braakhuis giving a hearty thank you.

Guests enjoyed the low-key, easy setting, with fine wine and delectable cuisine courtesy of Colin Hylton, to their heart's content.
