LIME Futsal revolution begins in Morant Bay

LIME futsal revolution will kick off in Morant Bay, St Thomas, at the Rudolph Elder Park this morning, starting at 11 a.m.

Morant Bay is best known for the famous rebellion led by Paul Bogle, and the crowd and the fanfare that are expected at the park for the start of the LIME National Street Futsal tournament could rival those historic moments.

LIME's vice-president of marketing, Carlo Redwood, is expecting St Thomas to set the standard by which all other parish competitions will follow.

"Last year, St Thomas was one of our bigger events, so we expect no less this time. We expect huge crowds, lots of good teams, and good football," he said.

"We kick off at the Rudolph Elder Park in St Thomas, and the excitement is strong and we expect a huge crowd. We have a bunch of good teams trying to take down Gulf Strikers, the national champions, even though they are confident that they are going to defend their title in this new format. But it will be a big day of football, lots of giveaways, and lots of entertainment," he said.

In this format, teams play on smaller fields with smaller goals, but the action is pulsating, with lots of goals. Sixteen teams are expected to match skills in the newly-introduced event, with the winner - at the end of the day - set to walk away with $150,000 and the runner-up $50,000.

Added to this will be the usual hype, music, and giveaways. After the games, then the real fun begins, with the LIME 'Pop and Brukins Free After-Party', starting at 8 p.m., with entertainers such as Triple X, Megatron, Supa Hype, Dexta Daps, Chi Ching Ching, and many others lined up.

Oral Tracey will be guest commentator, plus there will be a futsal zone, where spectators can compete in different games and win prizes from sponsors.
