Female leader poised to head MoBay Chamber of Commerce

Gloria Henry, assistant vice-president of operations at the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ), in charge of Montego Bay Freezone Company has been nominated to replace Attorney Nathan Robb as president of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Henry was officially nominated last week and could be confirmed in the position when the Chamber stages its annual general meeting on Wednesday.

"Yes, I have been nominated by the board of directors to serve the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry," Henry confirmed.

"If the membership supports the nomination at our AGM, it will provide a great opportunity to continue the legacy of the predecessors of successful presidents at the Chamber."

Henry is seeking to become the first female president of the business community group since the late Pauline Reid between 2006 and 2008.

Henry told The Sunday Gleaner that she intends to work cooperatively with the directors and executives to achieve the goals and objectives necessary to achieve the mandate of the Chamber.

"We want to create value for our members and the community in general, but at the same time we have to build our internal strength, capacity and a robust and effective Chamber than can support the growing economy of the region. In this area, I will look to expand our resource base.

"One of the best ways to enhance economic benefits to the local community and to increase the contribution to poverty reduction is to increase the extent of linkages between the formal sectors such as tourism, BPO, agriculture and the local business operators," added Henry.
