The embattled former FIFA-vice president, Austin ‘Jack’ Warner, is accusing the Trinidadian government of trampling his rights to due process in rushing to satisfy the demands of the United States for his extradition.

According to Warner, the Trinidadian government is taking advantage of his indictment in the US so that Kamla Persard Bissessar can be re-elected in the impending general election.

Hours after his release on bail following his arrest on a provisional warrant pending an extradition hearing, Warner took to the political platform to blast the Government.

At a press conference last night, he said the Attorney General Garvin Nicholas is a part of what he regards is an election plot.

Warner also said the media have a responsibility to protect him:

Meanwhile, Warner said he will be putting on tape, damning evidence about the conduct of Prime Minister Persard Bissessar.

Last night, Warner, a Member of Parliament on Trinidad’s Opposition benches, said his money financed the election campaign of the Prime Minister.

However, Persad-Bissessar has rejected the claim saying she received no money from Jack Warner to fund either her campaign or that of the United National Congress.

However, Warner says he will be releasing all the evidence in due time:

Jack Warner is a former National Security Minister and chairman of Persard-Bissessar’s UNC.

He is one of 14 FIFA officials and corporate executives indicted by the United States in a major corruption probe.

In a 47 count indictment the United States has alleged that there was bribery, money laundering, corruption and wire fraud conspiracy for more than 20 years amounting to US$150 million.
