Support streaming in for single father

Overwhelming support has been pouring in for Beres Walters and his daughter, Terriann, after their story captioned 'A Single Father's Struggle' was published in last Saturday's Gleaner.
Walters shared the heart-rending story of how he has had to care for his diabetic child who was diagnosed with the Human T-Lymphotropic Virus, which has caused her to be paralysed.
At one point, Terriann went blind for more than a year as a result of Type 1 diabetes and her father had to fork out thousands of dollars to send her to Cuba for an operation that restored her sight.
Terriann, who is now bedridden, says she gets depressed sometimes, but has no doubt that God is able to heal her.
Otis James, who is the coordinator of the charity organisation James and Friends Education Programme (JFEP) based in Clarendon, was heartened by the Walters' story and decided to help. James and one of the programme's directors, Myrtle Roye, a senior justice of the peace in the parish, on Tuesday purchased a cell phone for Walters as he did not have one.
The Gleaner has received more than 30 emails from readers who want to help Walters.
James and Roye have also proceeded to put a standing order on the JFEP bank account through which Walters can receive monetary assistance.
Walters told Rural Xpress that, since his mother died, he has been unable to locate his birth certificate or tax registration number, so he cannot open a bank account for himself.

Persons are being advised to inform the teller that the deposit is being made on behalf of Beres Walters.
