BPO sector can spur employment opportunities at all levels, in a short time
Finance Minister Dr Peter Phillips says the growth of the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector represents an opportunity to transform the country’s employment landscape over a relatively short period.
Noting that the sector has been on a steady growth path, Phillips says the government has developed a five-year strategic plan that would see thousands of Jamaicans gaining meaningful employment.
He says the strategic plan for the sector is expected to deliver some 15,000 new jobs over the next five years.
A critical value of the BPO sector, Phillips says, is that it can employ labour at all levels and experiences, as it provides opportunities for individuals with advanced degrees and high school graduates.
The minister was addressing Victoria Mutual Building Society’s inaugural economic forum held at the Terra Nova Hotel last week.
