Legal fraternity mourns president of Cornwall Bar Association

Justice Minister Mark Golding yesterday expressed sadness at the sudden and tragic passing of George Thomas, president of the Cornwall Bar Association.
Thomas died from injuries sustained in a traffic collision along the Flankers main road in Montego Bay, St James, yesterday afternoon.
His son, Maurice, was driving the vehicle, which was reportedly hit by a car at the stop light at the Flankers-Whitehouse intersection.
Yesterday, Golding extended condolences to the Thomas family on behalf of the ministry, as well as to the attorney's clients and professional colleagues.
Thomas had made a significant contribution to the legal profession and community in western Jamaica, which was acknow-ledged in 2010 when he was appointed a member of the Order of Distinction.
"His expertise and record of service at the private Bar led to his election as president of the Cornwall Bar Association in March of this year," Golding said.
"He was present at the opening of the Western Regional Registry of the Supreme Court in July this year at which he reiterated the call for a branch of the Supreme Court in western Jamaica, to which the Government of Jamaica is also committed."
In reacting to news of the tragedy, attorney Clayton Morgan said: "I can't even comment. I am at a loss for words. I will have to compose myself first."
