Titchfield Hig School mourns student

PORT ANTONIO, Portland:
The Titchfield High School family has been plunged into mourning following the death of a female student, who was killed during a hit-and-run incident at Flat Grass, Portland, Sunday morning.
A fifth-form student, 18-year-old Roxanne Davis, along with the father of her child, was hit by a speeding motor car while they were returning from a wake in the community shortly after 3 a.m.
Davis was pronounced dead at hospital, while her male friend was treated for serious injuries.
The Gleaner visited the school on Monday where dozens of students, along with teachers, mourned the student, who was described as hardworking, well-mannered, and one with a bright future.
"We are in a state of grief," said Richard Thompson, principal of the school.

"The loss of any student, especially in a tragic situation, is always painful. She was a committed student, who was very outspoken, and her untimely passing has left students grieving. We have got support from the Ministry of Education Region 2 trauma team. She is sadly missed, and teachers and students have cried, which is an indication that she is missed. We will be extending our support to the bereaved family members," he added.
And several of Roxanne's classmates, including Dequniea Francis, remembered her as caring, jovial, and hard-working.
"I am saddened by her passing. It wasn't her time to go. She was such a happy student, who was always willing to help us. She was a brilliant and intelligent student, who always took time out to encourage us. She will be missed for a long time to come," said Francis.
