Flash flood watch extended for eastern and south-central parishes

The Meteorological Service says a flash flood watch remains in effect for low-lying and flood prone areas of eastern and south-central parishes until 5 o'clock this afternoon.

This means that flash flooding is possible and residents are advised to take precautionary measures, keep informed by listening to further releases from the Met Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a warning is issued.

According to the Met Service, a trough induced by Hurricane Joaquin is producing showers and isolated thunderstorms across Jamaica.

It says while satellite imagery and radar observations have indicated a decrease in rainfall, the forecast is for showers and thunderstorms, which could be heavy at times, to continue to affect Jamaica into this evening.

This could cause flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Fishers and other small craft operators are likely to experience gusty winds and choppy seas in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms over both northern and southern waters during this period and are therefore urged to exercise caution.
