Woman convicted for fatal 2011 crash at bus stop to spend one year in prison

Ann-Marie Williams, the St Andrew woman convicted of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving has been sentenced to one year in prison on each count.

However, the sentences will run at the same time which means she will only serve one year in prison.

The victims, including a blind woman died in 2011 after Williams' car ploughed into a bus stop at which they were standing in Matildas Corner, Liguanea, St Andrew.

Sentencing was handed down a short while ago by Justice David Fraser in the Home Circuit Court.

The judge also ruled that Williams be disqualified from holding a driver’s licence for two years.

He said he had to impose a custodial sentence based on the circumstances of the case.

Williams who is now in the process of being taken to prison burst into tears ‎when the judge pronounced the sentence.

Last month, a seven-member jury found her guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.

Fifty-one-year-old Johanna Scarlet and 60-year-old Esmerelda Evans, who was blind, were killed.

Three other visually impaired persons were also injured.
