Cameras in school bathroom

THE EDITOR, Sir:
On Thursday, February 25, while participating in the electoral process at Petersfield High School, I went to use the bathroom, and, to my dismay, there were two cameras on the bathroom wall.
I'm no lawyer, but, assuming this is illegal, how ironic is it that the school infringes upon the written laws of the land and cheat established ethical codes of conduct in an effort to enforce their idea of discipline and morality among student.
Why should students respect the rules of the school, and, by extension, the law of the land, when the school goes against the laws and infringes on their rights to a basic degree of privacy.
And if it is legal to place cameras inside school bathrooms, I believe it sends the wrong message. Their perceived indiscipline shouldn't be grounds enough to violate their privacy. Respect goes where it comes from and the implication is that some students might grow up believing that it is acceptable for authorities, any form of authority, to abuse their rights.
Is the Ministry of Education aware that this is happening?
