Feb 29: Jamaican stocks slide 708 points
The Jamaica Stock Exchange Combined Index lost 708 points or 0.43 per cent on Monday to close at 165,348.32 points, on a day of trading characterised by low volume transactions.
Of the 38 stocks that traded, the losers dominated with 19 stocks losing value, 14 chalking up gains and five holding steady. Overall, just 2.35 million shares traded valued at $38.9 million.
The three primary market movers, which accounted for 44 per cent of trading activity, were Margaritaville Turks, which trades on the USD market, and lost one-tenth of a cent to close at US$0.144, and junior stocks Lasco Manufacturing, which gained 13 cents to close at $4.12 and Medical Disposables, down 11 cents at $3.50.
The combined index includes the main, junior and US dollar equities markets. The JSE Index declined by 670.56 points to close at 156,699.28 points; the Junior Market Index closed down 8.37 points at 1,947.91 points, and the JSE USD Equities Index shed 0.47 point to close at 158.81 points.
The combined index is up 4.47 per cent year to date.
