Members of the media have been barred from watching the magisterial recount for the controversial St Mary South Eastern constituency now underway at the Sutton Street Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court in Kingston.

It is, however, not clear who gave the instructions.

A police barricade, manned by a constable, has been set up outside courtroom number one where the ballots are being counted.

He told The Gleaner news team they are not allowed beyond the barricade.

One attorney raised concern about the media ban, saying the public has a right to know what was happening.

"The media should be allowed inside the counting area to alert the country about the timely counting of the boxes," the attorney said.
