Forever 40
WESTERN BUREAU:
A woman should be loyal to the age she is most comfortable with, and that was evident at the Forever 40, birthday celebration of Odette Dyer and her cousin Nicky Pryce last Saturday night at the Sea Gardens Beach Resort in Montego Bay.
The two women had guests from as far as London; Los Angeles, Texas, Canada, New York, and as close as Florida and Kingston converging in the tourism capital to celebrate their special milestone.
They didn't do it alone, the men in their lives, Godfrey Dyer and Wayne Pryce, were up front and centre giving their support at every step of the way. Godfrey, more so, owing to the fact he was celebrating a wedding anniversary as well.
Long-standing friend Metty Scarlett-Jones was tasked with officiating a very short and spicy birthday cake-cutting ceremony, obeying Odette Dyer's instruction that this was not an evening of speeches.
In fact, with the scrumptious fare out of the way, it was about the 1970s, '80s and '90s hits that had guests dancing the night away. It was extremely easy to get these party lovers to form any train you wanted, particularly, one that signalled soca.
For both women, their mothers were not as fortunate to live to their ages. When Pryce opened her mouth to speak, she was overcome by emotions, and when Dyer spoke, she declared in no uncertain terms that they were 29 and 29, respectively, though the banner said '40'.
One of Dyer's beasties, Lorna Johnson, who was working on the Hillary Clinton Super Tuesday campaign gave her friend the surprise of a lifetime when she showed up.
"I would not have missed it for anything," stated Johnson in a her tribute to her friend.
