Total relaunches its gas card

Total Petroleum Jamaica has relaunched its fuel card, first launched in October 2014, repositioned to customers as the French marketing company makes efforts to increase market share.
Network manager at TOTAL, Howard Henry, says the re-launch is in a bid to reconnect with customers and gain new ones as the company goes after a bigger slice of the Jamaican market.
"We're doing a relaunch because we want to step up the pace so to speak. We're taking it one step up in terms of our aggression in the market. We're doing this by making a fresh approach to our customers and our prospects," Henry said during the relaunch at the Spanish Court Hotel, New Kingston last week.
TOTAL says that its card is designed to meet the needs of both drivers and fleet managers. The cards also come with enhanced security features.
The company is touting the card as fully secured with three levels of security. First, there is a radio frequency identification tag that is placed on the car which corresponds with a security chip in the card. Then there is a personal identification number (PIN) that accesses the company's account through the card, and another PIN that is associated with each driver, especially in cases where there are multiple drivers of one unit within a company's fleet. The card can therefore be used to monitor the mileage and users, and fleet managers are warned if an anomaly is detected.

Henry says the card has evolved because it is benefiting from a connection with a company in France.
"With the worldwide footprint of TOTAL, it means that this card in Jamaica advances every time the system is upgraded, so we are presenting a card that has many more features than when it was first introduced, and there are more to come," Henry said.
The TOTAL card is post-paid and this therefore allows the customer to purchase fuel and services at its service stations islandwide on credit. Customers can tailor the card to meet their needs.
To get the card, prospective clients are scouted by the company's sales team or they can approach TOTAL by filling out the application form available online. They will need a copy of their trading license/certificate of incorporation, a copy of their TRN card, a completed card request and contract forms, and a security deposit in accordance with the assigned budgeted card limit.
Henry says that so far customer reaction to the card has been very good, and they have managed to snag one account with a fleet of more than 150 vehicles, and they are going after more. Pressed for specifics, Henry said he was not at liberty to disclose numbers or identify clients.
