The Ministry of Education is reiterating that secondary schools which require more than their allocation under the new funding policy must first seek approval.

The education ministry has given the directive in a bulletin to be issued to schools this week.

It says despite the new funding policy under which the Government has increased by nearly 100 per cent the allocation to secondary schools, some institutions are still charging parents exorbitant contributions.

The ministry insists that contributions requested by schools should not exceed J$20,000. It says where more is needed, the approval of the regional director must be sought.

The education ministry warns that it will be auditing each school to ensure adherence to the new policy.
