Portland basic school to benefit from 'Colour Me Happy' run

The third staging of the annual We Got the Runs JA (WGTR) 'Colour Me Happy' Powder Charity Run has been announced for September 17, 2016.

Returning to Hope Botanic Gardens, this year's run will once again benefit the Kind Hearts Foundation and their Basic School Building Initiative, with the beneficiary for 2016 being the Tranquility Infant and Basic School in Portland.

The Colour Me Happy Run is a one-of-a-kind event in Jamaica which entails a run with powder throws at each kilometre and ends with an after-party, where attendees can expect powder throws while jamming to music by some of Jamaica's hottest young DJs.

Andrew Walcott, WGTR president and co-founder remarked, "We've listened keenly to our runners and 'partyers' and this year we'll be including more powder, more fun and more surprises. Although the running scene is inundated with 5Ks, each year our turnout has grown as persons are becoming more interested in 'fun' fitness. Our run is one of the few in Jamaica where you can enjoy fitness, have fun and be imaginative, as even our awards include not only the usual first, second and third places, but also prizes for the most creative outfit and best team outfit."

Colour Me Happy Run ambassadors include Olympian Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, fitness enthusiast Kamila McDonald, and motivational speaker and media personality Dr Terri-Karelle Reid. According to the organisers, these ambassadors were selected as they embody the spirit of Colour Me Happy - fun, fit and philanthropic.

A SAFE ENVIRONMENT

Last year, the Colour Me Happy Run raised over $1 million and was able to construct the Duhaney Pen Basic School in Rosette District, St Thomas, that enabled 60 children to have a safe environment to learn. "Colour Me Happy Run is priceless - not only do you get to make fun memories with your friends, but you also know you're impacting a child's life for the better," said Christina Hudson, chairman of Kind Hearts Foundation.

The cost for this year's run and party is $2,000 for individuals and $1,500 each for groups of 10 or more. Persons interested in attending the party only can do so for $1,000.
