Gail Abrahams, CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Jamaica, presented a cheque valued at $704,000 to the Pocket Rocket Foundation.

In making the presentation, Abrahams said "partnerships such as the one AmCham had with the Pocket Rocket Foundation is what we are about, as the funds raised are for the well-being of children. We recognise and applaud the work ambassador Fraser-Pryce has done with the Pocket Rocket Foundation and encourage corporate Jamaica to support the foundation in its many endeavours. We will continue to work and support ambassador Fraser-Pryce and the foundation."

In her remarks, Fraser-Pryce noted, "AmCham's partnership with the Pocket Rocket Foundation has been very successful and fruitful. Our first fundraising event from the premiere of the movie Race helped student athletes, and for that we are very pleased. The Pocket Rocket Foundation is committed to continuing its work to impact the lives of young Jamaicans and we urge other corporate entities with the power to give back to work and enrich the many communities in Jamaica."

Last year, Fraser-Pryce was the recipient of the President's Award for her contribution to Brand Jamaica, at the annual AmCham Business & Civic Leadership Awards for Excellence at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.

Twelve Jamaican organisations and individuals were honoured at their sixth annual Business and Civic Leadership Awards, presented in association with GB Energy - Texaco.

REWARDING PROGRESS

The event highlights businesses, individuals and non-profit organisations that are driving and achieving economic and social progress in Jamaica through ethical leadership and stewardship and community-building activities.

Following last year's gala, AmCham partnered with Fraser Pryce's foundation in the movie premiere from which part proceeds were given to the foundation. Through the foundation, the Olympian hopes to create lasting change in the lives of student athletes and youth in children's homes across Jamaica by providing academic scholarships and other assistance.

This year's AmCham Civic and Business Leadership Awards Gala will be held on October 21 at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel. Awards will be made in three main categories; corporate social responsibility, civic leadership, and arts and culture.
