Man who allegedly stole steel remanded
A St Catherine man who allegedly stole a quantity of steel and later tried to escape from the police was remanded when he appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court today.
Thirty-two-year-old Ricardo Gibbs of Linstead, St Catherine has been charged with simple larceny, assaulting a police officer and escaping custody.
When Gibbs appeared in court today, he was remanded until next Monday.
It is alleged that on October 4, Gibbs stole 78 bars of steel from a building site in White House district.
Weeks later, the complainant saw Gibbs walking in Linstead and reportedly pointed him out to the police.
Gibbs was arrested and escorted to the station for processing.
While there, he asked the police for permission to use the bathroom but fled the compound when he was allowed.
Gibbs was chased by the police and when they caught him, he allegedly attacked the cops who shot and injured him.
He was subsequently taken back into custody and in addition to the offence of larceny was charged with assaulting the police and escaping custody.
