African stars coming for Racers Grand Prix

Two of the world's biggest names in athletics are expected to be announced as fellow headliners along with Usain Bolt at today's JN Racers Grand Prix launch at the Jamaica Pegasus.

The pair of stars, who hail from Africa are considered to be two of the most exciting athletes on the circuit, with both said to be extremely excited about competing in the island.

The second instalment of the Glen Mills brainchild attracted some big names at last year's inaugural staging, but checks within the international athletics community revealed that two African standouts will be making the trip to Jamaica for the June 10 meet, set for the National Stadium.

Mills had announced a few days ago that four world record holders would be named as confirmed athletes at today's media conference.

Three of those, including Bolt are now expected to be highlighted at today's event.

The meet, which will be used to pay homage to Bolt, who is in his final competitive season after announcing that he will retiring following this Summer's World Championships in London, will also feature several top local athletes such as Yohan Blake, Warren Weir, Kemar Bailey-Cole among others.

LAST RACE

This will be Bolt's last competitive race on Jamaican soil with organisers planning a special tribute 100m to close off the meet.

Mills, a few weeks ago, underlined the plan to ensure a wider range of top level competitors at the meet with the , 400 metre hurdles for women as well as the men's 800m added to this year's programme.

"We have a wider span of stars in events that were not previously, and we have the top stars in the world, record holders, world championship ... those events, even (jumpers) coming to participate in the triple jump," Mills outlined at a recent meeting.
