Men to give praise in melody, humour - 'Unity in the City' scheduled for Easter Monday

On Easter Monday, April 17, an all-male line-up will present praise in music and laughter at the 'Unity in the City' concert, to be held at the National Indoor Sports Complex. Gospel performers and comedians will come together in a production conceptualised by Orville Hall. At the press launch, held at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel on Tuesday, April 4, the concert was positioned as inspiring optimism and hope in a time filled with dreadful headlines.

The launch attracted the support of major gospel music industry players like Fun in the Sun coordinator Tommy Cowan, media personality Markland Edwards, and singer Chevelle Franklyn.

Performers for Unity in the City: The Ultimate Experience include Papa San, Kevin Downswell, Jermaine Edwards, Rondell Positive, and Kevin Heath. Also slated to headline the event is US-based gospel recording artiste Travis Greene, whose hits include Intentional and Made a Way. He also performed at President Donald Trump's Inauguration Ceremony earlier this year, and appeared at the 2017 Grammy Awards.

"This will be the first time Travis Greene will be visiting the island and, by extension, the Caribbean region, so we are excited to have him as a part of this initiative to unite for peace in Jamaica. Easter Monday is perfect, because during this season the hearts and minds of individuals are poised for a triumphant experience. Unity In The City will make Kingston come alive and restore it as the Easter place to be." Antoinette Ellis, committee member for the event, said.

Jermaine Edwards, Kevin Heath and iWorshipp band provided musical treats during the launch.

"Unity in the City's mission is spreading love and unity to heal the aching hearts of citizens of Kingston. It is also the launch event for the Unity For Peace Movement in Jamaica and, given the violent attacks against women and children, this event will help to alleviate the public outcry and renew a sense of hope," singer Jermaine Edwards said.

Comedians Bello & Blakka, Ity, and Minister Leighton Smith introduced the concept of praise in laughter.

According to Hall, early bird tickets went on sale last Friday at midday and by 6 p.m., vendors were reporting that the tickets have been sold out.
