The police have seized cocaine and marijuana with a combined street value of close to half a billion dollars this year.

That’s according to figures from the Police Narcotics Division, which shows that since January 1 just over 759 pounds of cocaine, valued at $413 million,  have been seized.

The figures show that just over 18,000 pounds of marijuana, valued at more than $72 million, have been seized this year.

The disclosures come a day after the narcotics police scored their biggest drug haul this year.

The police say a total of 77 kilograms of cocaine, with a street value of over $92.8 million, were seized at a house in Caribbean Estate, in Portmore, St Catherine.

According to the police, the drugs were wrapped in 70 rectangular parcels found in three travelling bags and a suitcase.

The police say one man has been arrested and is to be interviewed in the presence of his attorney before being charged with possession of,  dealing in and taking steps to export cocaine.
