Athletes and officials from G.C. Foster College and the Sprintec Track Club, who travelled with the Jamaica team to the recent IAAF World Championships in London, were honoured at a special reception held at the college yesterday.

Minister of Education Ruel Reid, the guest speaker, hailed the athletes and officials from the institution.

"Despite the dreadful conditions in London, you all had us on the edges of our seats as you made us all proud. Special commendation to Ristananna Tracy, who gave us an individual medal, and to coach Maurice Wilson for his excellent work at the institution to make the college one of the best in the world for producing world-class athletes," Reid said.

Fourteen persons were honoured, with Tracy leading the way. The others were athletes Anastasia LeRoy, Anneisha McLaughlin-Whilby, Demish Gaye, Jura Levy, Natasha Morrison, Rasheed Dwyer, Ronda Whyte, Shashalee Forbes, Yanique Thompson. Masseuses Nathaniel Davis and Romario Barrett, along with Sprintec assistant coach Sean Michael Samuels and head coach Wilson, were also among those honoured.

Also at yesterday's function were former principal Edward Shakes and former vice-principals Edwin Murray and Maurice Westney. Specials guests included fourth vice-president of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association, Vilma Charlton; councillor for the Angels Division in the St Catherine Municipal Corporation, Patricia Harris; and Anthony Davis, sports director at the University of Technology, Jamaica.
