Policeman injured in Olympic Gardens shootout, attacker killed

A policeman is now nursing a gunshot wound following an alleged shootout in Olympic Gardens, St Andrew last night.

The Police Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) reports that a team was on an operation in the area when members came under gunfire.

CCU says during the exchange the cop was hit and the alleged shooter, 22-year-old Michael Jacob, killed.

Jacob, otherwise called 'Ratty', a  pig farmer of Fairview Terrace, Kingston 11, was reportedly clutching a Ruger pistol.

The weapon was seized and the body removed.

The matter has been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations and the Inspectorate of Constabulary.
