Occasion was the 2017 launch of the annual Salvation Army Kettle Drive at the Scotiabank Centre in downtown Kingston, yesterday.

The Salvation Army is targeting $16 million in its Christmas Kettle drive this year, and its regular partner, ScotiaBank, has set it well on its way with the usual $1 million donation.

The 2017 kettle drive was launched yesterday with Christmas carols, laughter, and music at the Scotiabank Centre in downtown Kingston.

This year's drive has been dubbed 'Sharing is Caring', and the intention is to provide assistance to approximately 12,000 families and more than 3,000 Christmas food hampers for those in need.

"We need all the help we can get because the need is great," said new divisional commander for Salvation Army's Eastern Jamaica division Major Oral Morris.

"We hope that with your donations, we can extend our reach to impact greater numbers of the needy in the upcoming year."
