Sharpe proud despite Dominican Rep spill

National top-ranked junior triathlete Llori Sharpe is pleased with her sixth-place finish despite falling during the Caribbean and Americas Triathlon (CAMTRI) Youth & Elite Championships last Sunday in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic.
The 17-year-old Sharpe, having exited the swimming section in third place, got on her bike in fine style, but at approximately 3km into the ride, she fell from her bike after the wheels hit a metal ramp, which had been placed in the roadway to cover a speed bump. Despite the fall, bruises, and damage to the bike, she was able to finish the bike leg and continue the run to end the race in sixth position.
"I am recuperating, slowly but surely," Sharpe told The Gleaner yesterday while at St Andrew High School, where she is a student..
"I suffered bruises to my arm, knees, sides, elbow, and hip. However, I was determined to finish the event. I could not go there and do nothing. I am really proud of myself to finish the race," she explained.
"Despite, falling, it was a nice event. I am now looking forward to defending the female junior title at the Jamaica Triathlon Sprint Championship on December 17 at Port Royal," she concluded.
The trip for Sharpe and Philip McCathy, who was lapped and subsequently declared did not finish (DNF) in the Elite division, was courtesy of InterCaribbean Airways.
