Clarendon man sentenced to nine years for firearm ammo possession

A Clarendon man has been sentenced to a total of nine years in prison at hard labour after he was convicted for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

Twenty-seven-year-old Michael Denton of Osbourne Store, in the parish, was sentenced to six years for illegal possession of firearm and three years for illegal possession of ammunition.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

Denton was convicted in the Clarendon Circuit Court earlier this month and sentenced yesterday by Justice Courtney Daye.

Prosecutor Andrea Martin Swaby-led evidence, during the trial, that a 9 millimetre pistol, with three live rounds, was found inside the bedroom of a house occupied by Denton during a police operation last May.
