Michael Troupe suspended from St James Municipal Corporation for three months

The embattled councillor for the Granville Division in the St James Municipal Corporation Michael Troupe, has been suspended from sittings of the local authority for three months for bringing the municipal body into disrepute.

The motion was passed at today’s monthly meeting of the municipal corporation.

The council’s 13 Jamaica Labour Party councillors voted in favour of the motion with the four People's National Party councillors voting against it.

The decision means that Troupe’s seat in the municipal corporation will remain vacant until June.

Troupe, who is known to be vociferous during council meetings, looked undaunted when the decision was made to suspend him.

He said the suspension will allow him to spend more time with residents in his division.

The decision to suspend the long-serving councillor arose from the emergence of documents which showed that Troupe signed off on payments to his former secretary for work done up to October 31, 2017, more than three months after he said she walked off the job.
