Scorpions miss out on Super50 semis

Published:Monday | February 19, 2018 | 12:00 AM

The Jamaica Scorpions have not advanced to the semi finals of the NAGICO Regional Super50 tournament despite beating the USA by 80 runs in their final preliminary round match at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua.

This is because the Scorpions' slim hopes of advancing rested in the hands of the Leeward Islands Hurricanes, who needed to beat Kent in their final preliminary round match at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, also in Antigua.

Kent, however got the better of the Hurricanes, winning by 23 runs under the Duckworth/Lewis method, after rain affected their day/night match last night.

The result means Kent advances on 25 points, one ahead of Jamaica, joining Group B winners Guyana in the semi final. They will meet Group A winners Barbados and runners up the Windward Islands in semi final action on Wednesday and Thursday.

Scores in Kent v Hurricanes:

KENT 266 for nine off 50 overs (Sean Dickson 72, Daniel Bell-Drummond 66, Zak Crawley 43, Alex Blake 31; Orlando Peters 5-49, Akeal Hosein 2-41)

HURRICANES 196 for six off 42 overs (Keacy Carty 69, Montcin Hodge 62, Devon Thomas 28 not out; Adam Riley 4-40
