Fabian Reid taking aim at top goals

At the start of the season, Arnett Gardens' striker Fabian Reid had his eyes set on three goals for himself and his team. Retaining their title, finishing the league unbeaten and ending the season as the league's top marksman scoring at least 20 goals. These were the targets he had set for the 2017-18 Premier league season.

Arnett Gardens were on course to be unbeaten playing 18 games without defeat until they were derailed by now league leaders Portmore United. However, two of their top striker's aims are still within reach, winning the title and him finishing as top scorer.

Reid, who sits at the top of the scoring charts, having found the net on 16 occasions so far this season, says he is working hard to fulfil those goals. His 16 strikes puts him three ahead of his nearest rivals Jovan East (Portmore United) and Craig Foster (Humble Lion) both on 13; Ricardo Morris (Portmore United) on 11 and the trio of Kemar Beckford (Waterhouse), Ryan Miller (UWIFC) and Dino Williams (Montego Bay United) on nine apiece.

"Well obviously, to finish the season unbeaten is no longer possible but the title and being leading goalscorer are still very possible. It's all about putting in the hard work that will pay off and whenever I get my chances I put them away so we can get to our goals."

11 goals

The striker mustered 11 goals for the entire season last time around and says his current results is due to playing further forward.

"Last season, I only scored 11 goals, most of which came in the playoffs when I was put in the striker's role. This season, I told my coach that my aim is to be the leading goalscorer in the league so I want to play as a striker. That move has paid off as I have scored 16 goals and we are not yet in the playoffs, so I believe I can do a lot more with the form I am in and feeling good about myself," said the man who took over the playoffs in last season's league.

The striker, who has been capped twice by the national team, was surprisingly not a part of the squad that recently played South Korea in Turkey as he was away with Arnett playing in the Champions Cup. He, however, believes he needs to put in more work to be ready for the national setup.

"I honestly think it was due to me being away with Arnett Gardens playing in an important competition why I didn't make that trip. I just have to continue working hard so when the next games are to be played I will be ready," he stated confidently.
