Eyebrows were raised during yesterday's sitting of Parliament’s Standing Finance Committee when Dr Horace Chang, minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, reported that a contractor was evicted by thugs from Dela Vega City in Spanish Town, St Catherine, where he was about to carry out work to correct the sewerage problem in the community.

“The report of the contractor is that he was called on site and was told to leave or he would be dealt with,” Chang told Denise Daley, the member of parliament for St Catherine East.

“We are now seeking the support of the army which is currently severely extended,” Chang added.

Daley, who had asked for an update on the project, expressed shock at Chang’s answer, saying it was a rumour. She demanded an official report from the ministry on the alleged incident.

It was not clear when the project was slated for implementation, but Daley said it was in late 2017.

Chang said he would provide a report to the MP on the incident.
