NHT to bring three housing schemes to Trelawny

The National Housing Trust (NHT) will be undertaking three housing developments in the parish of Trelawny during the next five years.
The announcement was made at the recent official presentation of the Trelawny Local Sustainable Development Plan (TLSDP), which the Housing Agency of Jamaica believes will help to ensure that the planned project is cost-effective and done in a timely manner.
"The growing urgency to provide adequate housing to Jamaicans and the need to do so in a guaranteed and sustainable fashion calls for a shift in how we approach development," said Joan Dennis, senior project manager for the NHT.
The NHT has carried out several housing developments in Trelawny for many years. The Hampden Heights Scheme, which is located near the Bounty Hall community, is numbered among the recent developments by the agency.
Although the number of housing units that will be constructed was not specified, Dennis said the upcoming developments will produce vibrant and holistic communities, of which contributors will be proud to live, work, raise families and do business in.
"We don't just build houses; we build communities and we can only do so with proper planning in partnership with other agencies," Dennis explained. "We are happy to be witnessing the official birth of the TLSDP. This plan will be the guide for us and other housing developments."
Dennis further noted that the NHT was confident in the TLSDP, which serves to form a framework to generate economic growth and governance in Trelawny.
"Our involvement in this plan began well over 10 years ago when the NHT considered providing financial assistance towards the formation of parish development plans across Jamaica," Dennis disclosed. "The effective management of urban development will depend on how we position housing as a priority in sustainable development plans. So, through our contribution to the crafting of this plan, we at the NHT are firm about our commitment to plan an orderly development."
